I researched several different cameras before going with the Nikon CoolPix P100. I wanted something better than my several year old point and shoot, and the P100 is quite a few steps above it. It works great for scenery pictures, distance pictures, and fairly close shots of my very active toddler. I love the 26x optical zoom because I can take pictures of animals from far away and they look like I was standing right next to them. I would recommend getting at good sized memory card (at least 4 gb, though I prefer 8) because high resolution photos take up a fair amount of space. I haven't quite figured out the video feature. I can record and play them back on the camera, but I can't seem to get them to playback correctly on my computer. It's probably me - not the camera. One little quirk that I have with it is the battery meter. I wish it had "bars" like on a cell phone so you could know more accurately how low the battery is. It shows the battery at the halfway point right up until it dies. I would like it better if it showed somewhere between half and dead so I would know I definitely needed to charge it. Overall, it's a great camera. Simple enough for the point and shoot crowd, yet has plenty of features and settings to please the more experienced photographer. Full Review
